May we introduce: An estate on which viticulture has been practised in harmony with nature for centuries. A family with a passion that dared to take the plunge and dedicated themselves to viticulture.

Viticulture in and around Terlano in South Tyrol is based on a rich tradition and dates back to the 15th century (probably even further). It had been owned by the Barons von Giovanelli‑Dürfeld since the 17th century. They soon recognised that the vineyards around the estate were particularly well suited for French grape varieties. Even today, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are our most important varieties.
The grapes from our vineyards are used in some of the best-known wines from the Cantina Terlano winery, which is world-famous among experts for its fine white wines.
In 2017, Peter Unterkofler and Irene Zöschg had the opportunity to acquire the estate together with the vineyards. The family continues to work the vineyard with full commitment. At the same time, they decided to renovate the entire estate including the apartments and make it accessible to holiday guests.
Peter is responsible for the viticulture. He loves working in the vineyards, but he especially loves talking about viticulture. Preferably over a glass of fine wine.
Irene welcomes you to the farm, always has an open ear for your concerns and wishes and organises the paperwork. She also loves a good glass of wine in pleasant company.
Sophie is studying economics and helps out on the estate in her free time. She probably inherited a certain affinity for wine from her parents.
Sheep dog Hektor loves outings and forays through the vineyards around the house. But he also likes to snooze in a shady spot.
Wine growing in our steep vineyards means mainly one thing: a lot of manual work! Pete (and his now 90-year-old father Hans) do the majority of the work. In April and May, Irene, supported by two other workers, manages the foliage and leaf work in the vineyard.
From pruning the vines in winter, through foliage and leaf work and caring for the vines, to thinning out and reducing yields: The work keeps us young until the grape harvest in autumn. Especially if you want to deliver the highest quality, like we do.
Despite all the fulfilling work on the estate, we find it important to always take time for the beautiful things in life. That includes treating yourself to a time out every now and then. And that’s exactly what we would like to provide for you as our guests. The Thanhammer is the ideal place for connoisseurs who like to enjoy a good glass of wine.
